In the eagerly anticipated local derby Maesglas notched their first win of the season at the expense of town neighbours Cardigan who felt at the end that they deserved a share of the points.
In a goalless first half honours were shared with the best chance of the period falling to Chris Jones who should have put the home side in front only for his effort to be thwarted by keeper Kevin Evans.
After the turnaround Cardigan adopted a much more positive attitude and took the lead through Slawomir Waleczek from close range. The Polish born player was in action again a few minutes later when he was up-ended in the penalty box by newly introduced substitute Bleddyn Davies who was duly shown the red card for his effort.
Home keeper Rhodri Jones twice saved Alun Williams’ penalty kick and despite being reduced to ten men this spurred Maesglas to produce their best football of the match.
Chris Jones bagged a deserved equaliser from twelve yards before Huw Meredith clinched the points with a lobbed effort over the head of advancing keeper Kevin Evans.
At the School Field St Dogmaels had to come from behind to snatch a point against a battling Aberporth side.
Daniel Bellis and Mathew Newbold Jones were on the mark for the visitors with Johnny James and a late Ioan Owen effort saving the day for the home side.
Ffostrasol opened their season’s tally with an impressive home win against New Quay. After an early own goal Geraint Davies and Dafydd Evans added one apiece to kick start their team’s season.
After netting nine the previous Aberaeron week netted a further six in their away win against Llanybydder.
Lampeter were also on song against Dewi Stars
Llandysul’s poor start to the season continued as they were heavily beaten by Crannog.
The Second Division season opened with Llanboidy, thanks to a second half from Jamie Lee, edging out Pencader in what turned out to be an evenly fought encounter. |
